Starting off it’s a wonderful location on the coast of Spain and the multiple options for swimming pools were amazing. The slides weren’t really suitable for anyone larger or taller but the kids seemed to enjoy themselves a lot. The site had a wonderful on-site bakery and supermarket with reasonable prices. There is one decent playground near the sand pool with the Lighthouse and you can get some wonderful mocktails and ice creams. There is a small arcade in the main restaurant with Mario cart, Halo and some claw prize games and a large soccer pitch and mini-golf area next to it.
The beach Platja de Ponent is a 10 minutes walk away and was actually warmer than the pools but is not a very clean beach with broken glass on paths and rubbish on the beach we had to pick up.
We stayed in A48 a 2-bedroom bungalow which was great for 4 people but could sleep up to 6 people if you needed more space. There was two single beds and one double bed in our room but the lounge could also be converted into two more beds. The curtains did an ok job at blocking out the light but you will struggle to sleep in too much.
It had a small stove, sink, microwave and large fridge and air-conditioning. It was a reasonable distance from the main pool area & restaurant but we still heard the evening entertainment clearly until around 11-1125pm each night which was a bit annoying but a lot of the other guests enjoyed it we discovered.
Plenty of beach and bathroom towels supplied and are changed every 3 days and there is a free drying rack outside that dries any beach/pool gear quickly. Bathroom was a reasonable size but the sink didn’t seem to drain all that well but shower had good water pressure.
Plenty of birds singing each morning which is a wonderful way to wake up and the whole resort is fairly quite until 10am when the pools open outside the families lining up at the bakery for fresh bread and coffee.
Plenty of free parking onsite during off-season (May) and wifi is manageable but don’t expect UHD video quality and uploading photos for backup was tedious. There is a great onsite laundry but it’s a managed service so you pay upfront and drop your items to be washed, dried or both and they fold them and you get them back in about 2 hours for €11 which is reasonable.
There is a great onsite bakery with a steady stream of freshly baked bread and cakes, and a Supermercado Cambrils Park with a reasonable amount of name brands from Spain, UK and The Netherlands at decent enough prices. There is a big Mercadona just a few minutes walking distance away that offers even cheaper prices for items. If you still can’t find what you need there is a Lidl and Esclat supermarket a few minutes drive down the road.
Things that could be better were the pools were way too cold could have used some solar powered heating to make it suitable for guests visiting in early May. Also kids activities were suitable for under 3 or 4-5 not much suitable for older kids talking to the other parents. The spa was the only warm pool option and cost €18 for two adults and a child for a two hour swim. Family time in the spa is from 12-4pm each day and you need to book a slot. You also had to pay an additional €3 each if you didn’t have a swim cap. This gets very expensive very quickly.
The laundry was €5 for a wash or €6 for drying and folding which is a decent price for a bag of washing. But you need to use their laundry service you can’t wash your own stuff. Also the safe in the room required a key which wasn’t included but the room worked on RFID wrist bands which felt better in a lot of ways.
If you can I would avoid the bungalow’s closer to the pool area if you have small kids and also the ones at the top left side (A62,A63,A53) because it’s on the corner near the roundabout and large bins. Also on checkout guidance was all food to be dumped in the bins. Plenty could have been donated or used in worm bins to create fertilizer. There is also likely a heap of clothes that could be collected for charities when families work out what they packed on the way doesn’t fit into the suitcase for the flight home.
For a bit of a change we drove into Salou two nights and had wonderful Burger’s at 70’s & 80’s and next level life changing food at Restaurant Thai Salou. We did a day trip to Reus which was a beautiful town to see the Gaudí Museum located in Plaça del Mercadal and had lots of beautiful little shops.
